Bristol City Council is looking at who currently uses the community transport services it supports and who has a need for community transport both now and in the future.
-
Transport - big issue in Bristol
It is also seeking information about other community transport services in the city that it does notsupport financially. Community transport can be: · Door to door services for people with limited mobility· Minibuses for community groups such as scouts, guides, children's clubs· Small community buses, which operate links to local shops andother services.
On February 3, the council will distribute a questionnaire to a random sample of 20,000 residents across the city, including in Redland, to see if they currently use, or have a needfor community transport. In the following two weeks, the providers of services the councilsupports financially will distribute questionnaires to all their members (both individuals and groups).
Following this, a questionnaire will be made available to anyone living in Bristol who wants to take part. For further information please visitthe council website at www.bristol.gov.uk/communitytransport or leave a message on 0117 922 2946.
The aim is to get as high a return as possible and paint a clear picture of how the current provision serves residents and where there may be gaps in services - particularly for vulnerable people. The council must then analyse the results and prepare options for th efuture provision of transport for those people whose needs are will notbe met by the rail, bus and taxi services.
Councillor Tim Kent, Executive Member for Transport, said: "This work is not about making cuts but about ensuring good value for Bristol people. The council needs to look at what must change to ensure the council can support the provision of the best service, to the most people, with the right priorities."
