After last week's unpopular article about irresponsible cyclists, I felt I should extend an olive branch to those Redland folk who saddle up each day and post this positive cycling piece - seeing as it is national Bike Week this week.

Redland cyclists can head down to College Green tomorrow (Thursday) for a free bike event, from 11am until 2pm in front of the council house, which includes:
•Free bike 'check ups' courtesy of Dr Bike, qualified bike mechanic Ross Taylor of Taylored Cycles.
•Free bike security tags from Avon and Somerset Police Force, helping to reunite stolen bikes with their owners. •NHS Bristol will be providing FREE blood pressure checks to all interested in their overall health and fitness.
•A local bike and repair shop (Jake's Bikes) will be selling a range of recycled and refurbished bikes.
•Plus several local bike shops will be selling parts and accessories.
•Local walking and cycling groups will be on hand with information about the best routes to take if you plan to get about by bike or on foot. Seek out the Better By Bike roadshow team if you're interested in a FREE month-long loan bike and accompanied rides to help you build your confidence.
If all that talk of cycling and walking builds up a hunger, local caterers will be selling sweet and savoury treats and hot and cold drinks.
Cllr Jon Rogers, Bristol City Council's Executive Member for Cycling City said: "This is another great event in this summer's calendar of cycling and walking activities around the city. Do come along and take advantage of the full range of advice and help available. Everyone benefits from more walking and cycling in our city."
