Flames tore through a nail parlour on Gloucester Road, Bristol, this morning leaving it a blackened shell.
Fire at nail parlour on Gloucester Road, Bristol
Firefighters (in six fire engines) were called to the Creations nail and beauty parlour on the edge of Overton Road after reports of a fire. They managed to extinguish the flames but remained there this lunch time to ensure the fire was completely out.
The road was closed from the Prince of Wales Pub junction with Zetland Road in Redland and the Sommerville Road junction in Bishopston and pedestrians were not allowed in the direct area near the nail parlour.
A policeman at the scene told Redland People that the road would remain closed for some time as they were investigating the blaze to find out if there were any suspicious circumstances. He said there were also concerns about flammable substances in the salon exploding.
A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue service said all queries about the incident were now being directed to Avon and Somerset Police.
One witness, James Simpson, 35, said: "When I walked down to Gloucester Road to get my paper this morning I saw smoke pouring out of this place. There were loads of firemen and people watching. It was clear there was a lot of damage. I just hoped no-one was in there."
Heavy traffic took to the surrounding residential streets in a bid to find an alternative route as Gloucester Road is one of the main trunk roads from the north of Bristol to the City centre.
