Snow falls in Redland, Bristol

It's been really cold this past week and it was almost inevitable that we'd get hit by snow. Many Redland residents awoke to a flurry of the white stuff this morning, but now it just looks damp and cold out there – with no snow settling in the area – much to the disappointment of young (and big) kids.

However, the forecast (which should always be taken with a pinch of salt) has warned Bristolians to 'be aware' as part of a regionwide weather warning (one step below a severe weather warning). The Met Office predicts temperatures will sit around the 0 degrees mark but it has not forecast any more snow. And by Wednesday, according to the latest forecast, the sun should rear its head. More info here.

Bristol City Council says it is prepared for snow this year, with an army of volunteer snow wardens who, they say, will help keep the city moving. It has also invested in more grit and gritters and is confident there will not be a repeat of last year's scenes when roads and pavements became inpassable. More info here.

And if the snow does return (and settle) and you want to go and enjoy it, why not head to Bishopston Reclamation Yard, grab a wooden sledge and head out to one of Redland's open spaces and enjoy the magical weather – the slopes of Redland Green or St Andrew's Park could make a perfect wintery playground! More info here.
