Pop group Steps has publicly supported a new fundraising initiative from one local Bristol hospice.
The band took to Twitter to sing the praises of local charity St Peter's Hospice and encourage people to sign up for its Stadium Dash Challenge, due to take place on Sunday 3 February at the Memorial Ground in Bristol.
The 5,6,7,8 singers heard about the cause during a recent visit to Bristol to turn on the Yate Christmas lights.
St Peter's Hospice events fundraiser Louisa James said: "Steps heard about us and the Stadium Dash Challenge when they last came to Bristol and thought the idea was great as we are asking people to run up and down steps at the ground to raise money!
"Seeing them take the time to support us on Twitter and tell their 46,000 followers about us was absolutely fantastic. As a small, local charity, to get that kind of encouragement and exposure is fab!
"The Stadium Dash Challenge is a brand new initiative for Bristol; we want people to run up and down the 415 steps at the Memorial Stadium and try to beat the best time set, while raising money for the hospice."
The best time of 3 minutes 15 seconds has been set and St Peter's Hospice is asking individuals or teams of four to beat it.
The Stadium Dash costs £10 per person to enter and participants are asked to raise as much as possible through sponsorship.
St Peter's Hospice is Bristol's only adult hospice which cares for more than 2,670 patients each year with life limiting illnesses and provides emotional and practical support for their families. Each year it costs £6.8 million to run the hospice with 77% of that coming from public support.
Louisa continued: "As this is a brand new event, we're hoping it will attract a lot of interest. This has given us a great boost and the Stadium Dash is shaping up to be a popular event for the city.
"If anyone is interested in signing up I'd urge them to get in touch fast! The great thing about this is that you don't need to be in tip-top condition to do it, you can take it at your own pace or be as competitive as you like!"
The Stadium Dash is taking place from 10am on Sunday 3 February. First, second and third prizes will be given to the fastest individuals or teams.
