Thomas shows her all-round abilities at the Sportshall Championship

SOPHIE Thomas took centre stage at the Avon Schools' Sportshall Championships winning three golds, one silver a bronze in the under-15 girls' events.

Returning to action after recent injury problems, Thomas, pictured, a student at Worle School and who competes for North Somerset AC, won the speed bounce with an impressive score of 90, threw a personal best of 7.45m to win the shot and also cleared a PB of 57cms to finish top in the vertical jump.

Thomas also finished runner-up in the two-lap race, won by St Bedes' Anicia Skeates, was third in the four-lap event and achieved a PB of two metres in the standing long jump. She will be hoping for similar success at the South West Finals on March 3. While Thomas is a proven performer in Sportshall, Year 8 student Jack Slingsby, from Sidcot School, won his first county title in the standing triple jump. It was also the first ever title won by Sidcot School.

Organiser Dave Turner said: "With a record number of schools represented this year, the event goes from strength to strength."
