People from across Bristol could be in with the chance of winning £5,000 just by supporting local charity St Peter's Hospice.

The charity's annual Super Draw, which this year includes a first prize of £5,000 cash, is back once again and with odds better than the National Lottery people are being urged to visit a hospice shop now!

Those not lucky enough to win the jackpot, still have the chance of winning the second prize of £1,000, the third prize of a hotel break for two or one of the 20 runners up prizes each worth £10.

Costing £1, the same as a national lotto ticket, the odds of winning the jackpot are considerably better than the national game and with all money raised going towards the hospice it means the funds stay local.

This year's draw is taking place on Wednesday 5 December and Scott Hammond, lottery administrator at St Peter's Hospice, is hoping people from across the city will support the charity and buy a ticket in time.

Scott said: "The Super Draw is a great way to get involved, support us and also have a little fun too. In this economic climate everyone needs a little extra and it's going to be a fantastic prize for the lucky winner just before Christmas.

"There is also a far greater chance of winning than if you took part playing some of the national games. For example the odds of winning £5,000 with the National Lottery Thunderball are one in 620,046!

"The great thing about the St. Peter's Hospice Super Draw is that all money raised stays within the local area, helping people in the local community. Last year we raised £30,000 which paid for our community nurses to make 50 home visits and allowed 15 patients to receive vital 24 hour Hospice at Home care.

"It would be fantastic if the whole population of Bristol, which stands at about 433,100, bought a ticket however we realise that this is probably not going to happen and again puts into perspective how good this Super Draw really is."

St Peter's Hospice shop manager Toni Grey added: "Money raised from the Super Draw is vital and goes towards caring for adults with life-limiting illnesses. All you need to do is go to your local St. Peter's Hospice shop and buy a ticket.

"By selling just one book of 15 tickets you could help us pay for special equipment to provide continuous medication without the need for painful repeat injections.

"And for just £1 you could win enough for a family holiday or a new car and you'd be doing something great for a local charity. We have 46 shops around the city so there really is no excuse not to join in!"

Services at St Peter's Hospice are provided free of charge but the NHS contribute just 22% of the £6.5 million needed to run the hospice yearly, meaning support from the public is essential.

Last year the hospice cared for 2,675 patients and supported over 6,000 family members including children.

The last date for Super Draw entries is Friday 23 November.
