Following on form my article earlier in the week aout politicians embracing the Internet to get their message out, I’ve learned that the police are also heading down this route in Redland.

Last week, PC Jon Derrick went online to answer residents’ policing questions at one of Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s regular web chats.
PC Derrick is Neighbourhood Beat Manager for High Kingsdown beat in Bristol. The session was designed so that people could talk to him about local issues relating to the area or just ask him any general policing questions.
He said: “On 24 August 2010 I had a live Webchat for an hour and a half on behalf of the Kingsdown and High Kingsdown communities. It was very successful and I spoke to a variety of different people about many different topics, from local residents with local issues, to even someone from Greece asking about recruitment. I will certainly be doing this again and will let you know when the next one will be.”
Scott Fulton, Police e-services Manager said: "We know how busy people are and the web chats are a great opportunity for people to ask any questions they have about policing issues without having to leave the comfort of their sofa!"
The Webchat took place between 7pm – 8.30pm. To sign up for a reminder or to find out more, visit the Avon and Somerset Police website on http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/webchat/
Once again, I’d love to hear from you. Did you take part in this? Was it worthwhile? Would you use the facility if your local bobby took part? Or would you rather see your local officers face to face?

Can't beat seeing a police officer face to face though.
