Pop up shops and cafes prove a hit in Redland

color:black">This week sees the end a pop up cafe in Redland Parish Church Hall offering
cheap tea and coffee and delicious home-made cakes. But for those who missed
out, fear not, this was a trial run which is deemed successful, could become a
permanent addition to the Redland Green area, saving you a trek to Cotham Hill (certainly no shortage there - Deco Lounge, Blue Juice, La Boheme and Havana Coffee) Whiteladies
or Gloucester Road for a coffee when you’re whiling away an afternoon at Redland
Green.
Saying that, there’s always the Shakespeare or the Cambridge Arms
for a refreshing bevy. Though they’re better for the alcoholic beverages,
perhaps this WI style set up is exactly what we need.
Martin, from Bristol Culture blog certainly
thinks so – read his review of the temporary cafe here: Bristol Culture.
And this isn’t the only pop up store
gracing the Redland business-scape at the moment. The Goldmine, a spin off of
Shop Dutty on Cheltenham Road, is currently attracting a lot of custom in
Stokes Croft. Shop Dutty’s fairly small in size and The Goldmine allows the
owners to expand to include a lot more stock and is certainly well worth a
look.
But once again, this is only temporary
and will disappear at the end of the month.
So just why are businesses turning to
pop up stores/cafes etc instead of permanent business ventures? We’re tentatively
sat at the tail end of a recession and I guess people don’t want to commit to
something which may not be viable.
One thing’s for sure, if you like what
you see (or drink or eat) then please make sure you show your support and just
maybe they will become permanent fixtures!
