Things for kids to do in Redland during the Summer holidays

Redland is one of the most family oriented areas in the city, with good schools and good children but how do parents keep them amused throughout the long Summer holidays?

Redland Green
Many local Rainbow, Beavers, Brownie, Cub, Scout and Guide groups cease to operate during the summer months due to depleted numbers and obviously the schools aren't there to keep the little ones amused.
But that doesn't mean there's nothing for youngsters to do in Redland.
Redland is fortunate enough to have lots of green spaces and parks - from the iconic Redland Green to the smaller (yet perfectly formed) Cotham Park. There's often ice cream vans at both and they are generally pretty safe places to go - bustling with activity during the daylight hours.
Older kids can head down there on their own and explore and the younger ones can run about and use up some of the endless energy kids tend to have.
Then there's The Bristol Downs at the top of Whiteladies Road, which has an annual fair, circus and plenty of other one off events, including the weekly Downs Football League.
Then across the way in nearby Clifton you've got the fantastic Bristol Zoo Gardens, which hosts a whole load of activities for kids, including fancy dress days, musical entertainment and educational tours.
Redland People has already featured some sports based stuff for kids to do.
Then there is the annual Bristol balloon fiesta. Cotham Park RFC is opening its doors for people who want a spectacular view of the event at the end of August.
What about if it's raining then?
The kind folk at the University of Bristol in Redland have come up with some indoor activities for children including colouring in dino pics.
Bristol Museum on the Triangle is free to visit and don't worry Banksy's not there so the queues shouldn't be too bad. There's an American art exhibition on at the moment.
BBC Bristol, which is based on Whiteladies Road, has organised some Wild Days Out in association with local libraries.
And Bristol City Council, based on College Green, has also pulled together a list of things to do in the summer holidays, including music, nature hunts and railway trips.
Redland High School for Girls hosts a Redland Rascals holiday club for 3-11 year olds as do some of the local churches, including Cafe Culture at Redland Parish Church.
So there is clearly no shortage of things to do but I'm sure I've missed things out...does anyone have any other tips? If so please let us know and above all, enjoy the break!

Some good ideas in there. Weston-super-Mare's not too far away either if you want a special day out. I think the pier is re-open now too.
