Wedding services in Redland: venues, dresses, flowers, rings, hair...

Being married less than a year myself I know exactly what a
-
Wedding (Pic by Dan Lewis at www.daniel-lewis.biz)
mission it can be to plan your nuptials –
that’s why I’ve come up with a list of helpful contacts for all your wedding
planning needs in Redland.
The most important thing (apart from the proposal and the
soon to be bride and groom of course) has to be the venue. It is often the
biggest expense and could well be subject to a ridiculously long waiting list.
Seriously, once this is booked you can relax...a little.
So what do we have in Redland? If you’re religious we have
two very beautiful churches, Redland Parish Church
and Cotham Parish
Church.
For those secular folk you’ll probably need to head outside
of Redland for the actual ceremony (we’re lacking large hotels/barns/mills here
in Redland) but there are plenty of places to host a reception, including The
Elmgrove Centre, if you want to organise your own caterers and decorations
and if the weather’s fine and your garden is big enough, there is Marquee Master.
Then we have the big question of the dress. There are plenty
of bridal shops in Bristol City Centre and in nearby Clifton but the best one
in Redland is Dressed to
Impress, which has the usual fare of white and ivory fairytale dresses. Or
if you’re looking for something a bit more unique then check out Teresa Gale period dress. For all your
alteration needs, check out Sew
Bespoke. As the name suggests, Sew
Bespoke will carry out your bespoke sewing needs. Does what it says on the
tin.
And for the men, we have the refined Frocks and Tails. Frocks
and Tails on Cotham Hill has everything from tuxedos to cufflinks and is a
must for the groom and his party. Alternatively, there is TM Lewin on Park Street, which may look
expensive but has some fairly decent sales throughout the year.
Back to the blushing bride, we need to consider hair and
make up. Personally, I feel a bride should do her own make up – after all she
knows what looks best on her, she puts it on every day. Anyhow, hair is a
different matter altogether. For that we have SK109 Hair Salon in Redland. SK109
is a down to earth salon which will take you through all the options for your
wedding hair. There is also Moda
Hairdressing, another good choice for Redland brides.
There’s little worse than looking through the photographs of
your big day to find they’re anything less than wonderful so the photographer
is another expense worth having. There’s plenty of choice in Redland but among
the best is Suzie Kelly
Photography, also known as SDK
photography, and PhotoDabek.
Another of the key expenses is the lasting symbol of the nuptials,
the rings. Redland has many jewellers but these are probably your best bet for
wedding bands. Alexander
Parkin for your traditional plain rings and Diana Porter Jewellery for more
bespoke designs.
So we’ve got the rings covered, but what is a wedding
without flowers? There are a couple of Redland florists worth getting a quote
from, including House
of Flowers and Lloyds
Flowers.
Gone are the days of boring white iced, bitter fruit cake –
welcome the days of chocolate cake, Victoria sponges and delightful little
cupcakes. Topping the chocolate lovers list is the Redland-based Organic Chocolate Company and for twee
little cupcakes, check out Rosie
and Richard’s cupcakes.
And if this planning is all getting a little stressful for
you, how about treating yourself to a session in the The Coach House Day Spa?
This list is not conclusive so please do tell me if I’ve
missed any good ones out!
