A pilot scheme is being launched in Bristol to enable parents in the city to get specialist help for their children’s homework.

The online service, called tutorhub.com, is the idea of Kevin Gibson and Jon Ellis, former pupils of Monks Park School, Bristol. It has been launched initially in the Bristol area to find out exactly what help children and parents find useful before being launched nationwide.
Most parents find that things have changed a great deal since they were at school and find it difficult to help their children.
The move follows a survey which showed that 80% of parents find it difficult to cope with questions covered by today’s National Curriculum and are looking for ways to help their children succeed.
Parents can choose tutors to help with specific GCSE or A Level subjects or to coach children as they come up to school entrance exams. Tutors set out their rates and parents pay online.
Jon and Kevin are also behind the successful beanbag learning website, the largest free tutor search website in the UK with over 2,500 listed in the UK – 100 of which are in Bristol.
Said Jon Ellis, from Tutorhub.com, which has its base in Thomas Lane, Bristol: “We have launched tutorhub.com in our home city because we want to hear from Bristol parents and children what works best for them. We will then roll out the idea nationwide.
“Parents say that finding a reliable tutor is difficult and a recent national report found that 22% of 11 to 16 year olds receive private tutoring at some stage of their education.
“Today’s parents want to help their children as much as possible to succeed and the internet provides a great opportunity – this is the UK’s first serious online tutoring website.
“Children connect with tutors using instant messaging and we have designed the website with child safety in mind so parents have peace of mind.”
Tutorhub.com has been designed to be fun to use for children while reliable and practical for parents, who can rest safe in the knowledge that the help and support their children get will match the National Curriculum and be in line with teaching in school.
