The six piece - who released their critically acclaimed debut album last year - are playing the free event at Bath Spa University on Feb 19th and are encouraging fans and friends to turn up in large numbers to support a good cause.
The Fauns have morphed from their original three-piece to today's six- member line up and have been described as showing influences from My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive.
Founding member Michael Savage is a resident of Redland and owns Prime Cuts, the basement record shop underneath vintage clothing store Re-Psycho on Gloucester Road. As well as providing obvious sources of musical inspiration, the store also brought several members of the band together, including guitarist Elliot Guise. Lead singer Alison Garner describes the store's 30,000 records as a "musical Narnia."
Michael has also founded Laser Ghost Recordings, an independent label, to publish the band's music. Promotion is mainly done online and through touring. A European tour is planned for this year along with a second album.
Admitting that Bristol bands are often big on ability but rarely good at self-promotion, The Fauns are aiming to push through beyond their local fan base. Says Michael: "Bristol is slightly like the graveyard of ambition and it does tend to rest on its ****."
Catch The Fauns tomorrow (Saturday) at the Louisiana, Feb 19th at Bath Spa University or March 17th at Start the Bus for a Crack Magazine Party.
