Redland Crime Prevention Surgery

Crime prevention takes a step up this week with the first of two
surgeries run by the police at Redland Library on Tuesday September
29th.
Police
Community Support Officers along with Redland Beat Manager Alex Owen
will be present to discuss any crime-related issues with local
residents or business owners. Advice will be available on a range of
crime prevention initiatives relating to both adults and children.
Redland,
Cotham and Bishopston are two years in to a five-year police
anti-burglary plan aimed at making the area less attractive to
burglars. The Safer Homes Visits is one aspect of this plan. This
involves a skilled tradesperson employed by the police visiting local
homes by invitation and assessing home security. If necessary, locks
and other security devices can be fitted to doors and windows at no
cost to the residents. Nadine Horton, who recently attended the Cycling
Sunday at Redland Green, is co-ordinating this campaign and can be
contacted at Redland Police Station.
Nadine reports
that there were 22 Safer Homes referrals in the area last week alone.
Local police have also met recently with local letting agents to inform
on the spate of recent burglaries in the area and to encourage take up
of the Safer Homes initiative.
Next week's Redland
surgery follows a successful mobile surgery held on Gloucester Road in
August using the Police Community Contact Van. A further surgery will
be held at Redland Library on Whiteladies Road on October 6th from
10-12.
