Stall holders at the local farmers' market on Whiteladies Road braved

sub-zero temperatures today to keep the popular local food service

running despite the wintery weather.

"We never really thought of not running it," said one stall holder.

Admitting

that pedestrian numbers overall were down today, the local producers

remained upbeat. "Business has been OK," said one, through a cloud of

freezing breath.

The Whiteladies Road market was originally

created in 2006 by members of Sustainable Redland, a local

environmental group which seeks practical ways of developing strong local

communities and economies that are less dependent on oil.

The Market runs at the junction of Whiteladies Road and Apsley Road on

the first Friday of the month and the third Saturday of the month, from

8.30 am to 2.00 pm. Stall holders are all based within a 50 mile radius

and try and use as little packaging as possible for their products.
