Police are appealing for witnesses after an accident in which a man was seriously injured while travelling in a taxi.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2009 at around 1.10am in Chandos Road, Redland.
Three men had been travelling by taxi from Nelson Road, Bristol. When the taxi stopped in Chandos Road one man got out with the intention of retrieving his wallet from his adjacent car.
A second man also tried to get out of the taxi, but stumbled, caught his feet in the seatbelt and fell into the road with his feet still trapped in the taxi's seatbelt.
The taxi then drove off dragging the man along the road on his back for about 50 metres and banging his head against several cars.
It then stopped for a moment to let the third man out before again driving off.
Police and ambulance were called but on their arrival both the men and the taxi had gone.
The man was treated in hospital for his injuries later on.
The taxi is described as a London style taxi which was red, maroon or burgundy in colour.
Another taxi may have been in the area at the time and may have suffered some damage.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact the accident investigation unit on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. ReportThis is an amazing story... a modern day foot in the stirrup story. I hope the man is making a strong recovery.
No witnesses? this could not be something easily forgotten.

ReportThe whole thing sounds totally bizarre. It would take more than a few for this to happen.
