Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways have been lobbying senior
managers within Network Rail to increase the number and
frequency of trains running on the Severn Beach line, which passes
through Clifton, Redland and Montpelier stations.
Network Rail
have proposed an hourly service but FOSBR have challenged this,
claiming that increased use in recent years warrants a half-hourly
service between Severn Beach and Temple Meads.
The local rail
group have the backing of the West of England Partnership, who have
themselves submitted a ten-year strategy for increased local rail service
that includes:
- half hourly clock face services with separation of intercity, regional and local services
- a local
network of cross city services linking Yate, Weston-super-Mare, Bristol
Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads and Bath
- four car trains standard, with possible extension to six along with platform lengthening
