Wintle wins a veterans race in the pouring rain in Majorca

Dave Wintle, of Great Western Runners, won the veterans' Over-45s prize (1:27.03) at the Calvia half marathon in Majorca last weekend and club-mate Malcolm Offer picked up the top prize in the Over-70s age group (2:01.54).

Mike Willcox (1:34.26) and Dante Feby (1:56.00) also ran.

"Unfortunately it rained all week and really hammered it down during the race," said Willcox.

● Competing in Bath University Open Indoor meeting, Bristol & West AC's Theo Campbell ran the fastest 60m of the day (7.21), while Under-15 Jack Dyer ran 8.23 to win his race. The club's French athlete Mariame Diamonde won the triple jump with 11.96m.

● The husband and wife team of John and Pat Curtis claimed top spot in the Hogweed Trotters' battle of the married couples at the Christmas Cracker in Weston.

● Stuart Wilkie, of Hogweed Trotters, completed the recent Luton marathon in 3hrs 28mins with club-mate Duncan Macarthur setting a new personal best of 3:57.

● Thornbury Running Club has confirmed its popular Riverbank Rollick will be held on Sunday, January 17 (11am) from the Mundy Playing Fields in Thornbury. For more details visit www.thornburyrunningclub.co.uk

● Ken Ham was Thornbury Running Club's leading runner in the Christmas Cracker 10k finishing 26th (38mins 10secs) and third veteran over 45. Top athlete from Great Western Runners was Ross Walker in 38th (39:10), while Andrew Gillis led the Southville Running Club challenge in 71st (41:20).

Bitton Road Runners were out in force at the Cracker with 14 men in the top 100 – more than any other local club. Phil Westlake led the way in 17th, with Sam Phillips finishing 99th.

● Details of the 2010 Somerset Series have yet to be confirmed, but the first event looks like being the Hestercombe Humdinger on February 21.

The Quantock Beast could also be back on the calendar, if the Harriers can get agreement with the landowners.

● Warmley-based Dave Coales finished 10th to lead Team Bath AC to victory in the senior men's event at the third Gloucestershire Cross Country League fixture.

● Stroud teenager Tom Curr won a bronze medal at the World Schools' Games in Qatar in the medley relay.

● Bristol & West AC veteran Jerry Hogan ran a personal best of 10mins 01.53secs for 3, 000m at the UWIC Indoor meeting. Club-mate Alex Fields won the 300m (37.44secs) and then clocked 1:25.69 for 600m with Martin Flook running 1:25.81.

● Laura Crocker was the leading runner from Portishead Running Club in the Cracker 10k, finishing 74th and fourth woman, while the club's top man was Chris Collins in 137th.

● Because of the clash with the Avon Schools Cross Country Championships, Avon has decided to pick no young athletes teams to compete in the South West Championships at Bicton Park, near Exmouth, on January 10. Only senior and Under-20 teams will be selected.

● The annual Downs Fitness Handicap, which was scheduled for tomorrow, had had to be postponed due to the clash with the wedding of Jon Wills and Charley Coffey. The proposed new date is Sunday, January 3.
