The local elections are also tomorrow

I have spent the last few weeks and months trying to visit every household in Redland. While I have met many of you, inevitably not everyone has been in.

So this article is to introduce myself and explain why I’m standing to represent you on Bristol City Council and why I think you should vote for me tomorrow.

Like many people, I am tired of the way the council has been run – we pay one of the highest council taxes and we get far less for it.

At a local level, there are three broad areas that desperately need improvement:

Local school places for local children

Improving access to local schools is one of the biggest challenges the council faces in Redland, and as each year passes, so the situation gets worse and worse. I have some bold solutions to the problem and intend implement them straight away.

Local (and cheaper) buses

The bus services to and through Redland also clearly need attention – they don’t serve smaller streets and they’re too expensive – there are more details about this outlined in my leaflet and on my website

The Environment - No Compromise

It is absolutely clear that we need to drastically reduce carbon emissions, recycle more and encourage the use of public transport.

These issues cannot be tackled in isolation. To reduce car journeys and congestion, we have to reduce bus fares and improve services.

To send less to landfill, we have to look at contracts with the companies that collect recycling from our homes, businesses and supermarkets.

Improving the intake system for our local schools will help by ensuring children are educated locally – children and parents should be able to walk to school.

And all this while tackling the biggest financial crisis in a generation.

Bristol City Council simply has to do more and to lead by example.

I intend to instigate that change from within.

But I can’t do it without your support. Figures from previous elections in Redland have shown that people aren’t happy with the Lib Dems here (the proportion of votes have dropped in every election since 2002) and despite what some people would have you believe, Redland is now a marginal seat.

I know that many of you, like me, are passionate about the environment, so please turn that passion into a Vote for Change and elect me to represent you on Bristol City Council tomorrow.

Yours sincerely,

Graham Godwin-Pearson, Conservative candidate - Redland

    Go Graham!

What a good idea making the most of this community site to get your message out there. There's only so much I can do! You're clearly campaigning hard and that's what Redland needs from its councillors...let's hope the others are just as conscientious.

    Best of luck tomorrow.
