STUDENTS receiving their GCSE results at Bristol Grammar School celebrated record success with almost twice as many as the previous year securing an A* or A grade in ten or more subjects.
In all, 45 students were awarded straight As or A*s in every subject, equivalent to 32 per cent of the year group, up from 17 per cent of the year group in 2009.
Headmaster Rod MacKinnon celebrated with the 135 pupils who received their results.
He said: “Every pupil here should be very pleased with their results and all that they have achieved.
“While 69 per cent of all GCSE passes were an A or A*, 90 per cent of all results were an A*, A or B, a reflection of the hard work and commitment of every single one of our students and their teachers.”
Forty-three students gained A or A* in at least ten GCSE subjects.
Three girls and four boys achieved ten A* grades.
Annie Gainsborough from Cotham, Bea Vincent from Redland, Hannah Gil from Stoke Bishop, James Sun and Luke Grenfell-Shaw from Stoke Bishop and Yongqi Wang from Bradley Stoke are six of those who all got the highest possible grades in subjects as diverse as Russian and DT Electronic Products.
Bea Vincent, who recently returned from a school trip climbing glaciers and exploring the Arctic, said: “I am absolutely amazed by the results. This summer, I pushed myself to the limit climbing and camping on a 1,200 metre glacier. Today I’m feeling just as elated.”
Luke Grenfell-Shaw is hoping his top grades will be the first stepping stone in his plans to become a vet.
“It’s very competitive, so I was really hoping to do as well as possible,” said Luke.
